Recently Amazon has cracked down on formatting within email templates. We have two articles on our blog about this. You can read them here

https://blog.zonmaster.com/2020/amazon-communication-policy-updates/

and here

https://blog.zonmaster.com/2021/amazon-ai-identifies-non-compliant-emails/

It is VITAL that you follow Amazon's rules on email formatting, otherwise your messages will not be delivered to customers. Messages that are sent by Zonmaster, properly received by Amazon, but not delivered to the customer because of formatting or other content issues will still count against your Zonmaster email quota.

In this article we will show you how to fix those.

Warnings

You will see Compliance Warning messages like this on your dashboard if you are breaking the rules:

If you click on the link that is the name of the Email Template (the blue text in the above image) you'll be taken to the main page for the email template. (the url will look something like https://www.zonmaster.com/email_templates/12345)

Content

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and look for a section called 'Body'. Here you can see the raw html of your email. You'll probably see something like this:

It's a bit overwhelming but don't worry! We'll show you how to fix it.

Edit The Email Template

Let's go back up to the top of this page and click on the 'Edit' button. You'll be taken to the page you used when you first created the email. Let's scroll down and go to the part of the page where you edit the actual content of the email.

You might see something like this

See all those fonts and colors?! Amazon doesn't want their customers to get mails that look like that.

The fix is simple.

Select all the text by either clicking and dragging or clicking inside the area and type Command-A (on the Mac) or Ctrl-A (on Windows).

It should look something like this when you've got it all selected:

What we need to do now is go up to the 'Format' menu just above the text area and click that and then select 'Clear  Formatting' (down at the bottom of the menu)

Select that. Your text will change to something like this

As you can see, all formatting has been removed. Now, Amazon is ok (for now!) with you having some bold text in your emails, so if you want to do that you can. Select the words you want bolded and click the 'B' just above the text editing area.

You can now save your email template and it should go out to your customers (assuming there are no other content issues).
